Teaching Christianity (On Christian Doctrine) (Works of Saint Augustine)

Teaching Christianity is the most original book Augustine ever wrote. It is not so much a treatise or scholarly work but an instruction manual on how to teach Christianity. He wrote this how to book for those who would be preaching and explaining Christianity. It is entirely based on the bible and helps the reader express its truths of faith with soundproof methodology. It is a book that will help readers to communicate their message in a clear and effective way.

`Edmund Hills new translation of Augustines treatise On Christian Doctrine is superb. His early and mature thought on how to understand scripture and how to communicate that understanding to others is set forth clearly and attractively. The translator has shown great discernment in his choice of words an d in their placement. This makes for a smooth reading. Extremely valuable are the scholarly endnotes provided after each of the four books. The new title chosen by Edmund Hill, namely, Teaching Christianity indicates that Augustine is here instructing the African clergy, probably the bishops, how to preach effectively to their congregations. The treatise is not focused on doctrine.'

Field
by Pandiyan

Question by Last2Fall: What field of engineering is most demanded these days?

My preference are biomedical, chemical, or nuclear. If you are a professional in one of these fields, can you give me some advice and description of your career. Just a thought what field of engineering has the best salary?

Best answer:

Answer by Syllogistic Libertarian
The bio craze is still going, but right now environmental engineering is huge. If you can put green in front of it, or talk about "sustainability", then everyone and their dog will throw money at you. I'm a research chemical engineer at a national lab, finishing my PhD in chemical engineering.< a href='http://Inspirational.booksharecentral.net'> My topic is ionic liquid delignification of biomass for green auto composites. I started in the solar energy industry as a semiconductor engineer, but got bored with process engineering and went back to get my master's. I've worked on fuel cells, combustors, microchannel devices, and a zillion other things. That's what research is like. But almost every call for proposals I see wants a focus on the environment in some way. If you go chemical with an environmental engineering focus then you'll have to beat recruiters off of you with a stick come graduation. Trust me.

From Welfare to Childcare: What Happens to Young Children When Mothers Exchange Welfare for Work

Implementing an Inpatient Smoking Cessation Program serves as a step-by-step manual for implementing a cost-effective tobacco cessation program for hospitalized patients. Based on the Staying Free program, which has evidenced among the highest cessation rates reported in the s cientific literature, this book is the result of decades of research by the authors. Although the book reviews a tobacco cessation program, the process is applicable to most behavioral interventions in acute- or long-term care settings.

The book details the administrative responsibilities involved in designing, implementing, delivering, evaluating, and maintaining an inpatient tobacco cessation program. Its how-to approach focuses on the skills needed to: determine the work that needs to be done, select the appropriate interventions and providers, pay for and market the program, and create systems to keep the program alive. It provides algorithms for forecasting program enrollment and information on how to budget the program. Readers can then use this information as a blueprint for implementing their own program. A chapter on workflow provides a "virtual tour" of w hat to expect from the first 48 hours through the first year.

Written in an accessible style with insightful interviews with actual providers, Implementing an Inpatient Smoking Cessation Program:
*summarizes the literature on tobacco use, including the causal health effects and cost-effectiveness of cessation programs, to help readers build a case for a program;
*reviews the clinical guidelines and advantages that support an inpatient program; and
*provides tips on how to develop an effective program including insight into where the bottlenecks are likely to occur, and how to avoid them.

User Stories Applied: For Agile Software Development

The concept of user stories has its roots as one of the main tenets of Extreme Programming. In simple terms, user stories represent an effective means of gathering requirements from the customer (roughly akin to use cases). This book describes user stories and demonstrates how they can be used to properly plan, manage, and test software development projects. The book highlights both successful and unsuccessful implementations of the concept, and provides sets of quest ions and exercises that drive home its main points. After absorbing the lessons in this book, readers will be able to introduce user stories in their organizations as an effective means of determining precisely what is required of a software application.

We Die Alone: A WWII Epic of Escape and Endurance

A World War II chronicles of Jan Baalsrud's escape from Nazi-occupied arctic Norway.

We Die Alone is an astonishing true story of heroism and endurance. Like Slavomi r Rawicz's The Long Walk, it is also an unforgettable portrait of the determination of the human spirit.

If this story of espionage and survival were a novel, readers might dismiss the Shackleton-like exploits of its hero as too fantastic to be taken seriously. But respected historian David Howarth confirmed the details of Jan Baalsrud's riveting tale. It begins in the spring of 1943, with Norway occupied by the Nazis and the Allies desperate to open the northern sea lanes to Russia. Baalsrud and three compatriots plan to smuggle themselves into their homeland by boat, spend the summer recruiting and training resistance fighters, and launch a surprise attack on a German air base. But he's betrayed shortly after landfall, and a quick fight leaves Baalsrud alone and trapped on a freezing island above the Arctic Circle. He's poorly clothed (one foot is entirely bare), has a head start of only a few hundred yards on his Nazi pursuers, and leaves a trail of blood as he crosses the snow. How he avoids capture and ultimately escapes--revealing that much spoils nothing in this white-knuckle narrative--is astonishing stuff. Baalsrud's feats make the travails in Jon Krakauer's Mt. Everest classic Into Thin Air look like child's play. In an introduction, Stephen Ambrose calls We Die Alone a rare reading experience: "a book that I absolutely cannot put down until I've finished it and one that I can never forget." This amazing book will disappoint no one. --John J. Miller

BURJ KHALIFA DUBAI

Burj Khalifa (Arabic: برج خليفة‎ "Khalifa Tower"), known as Burj Dubai prior to its inauguration, is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and the tallest man-made structure ever built, at 828 m (2,717 ft). Construction began on 21 September 2004, with the exterior of the structure completed on 1 Octob er 2009. The building officially opened on 4 January 2010, and is part of the new 2 km2 (490-acre) flagship development called Downtown Dubai at the 'First Interchange' along Sheikh Zayed Road, near Dubai's main business district.

The tower's architecture and engineering were performed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill of Chicago, with Adrian Smith (now at his own firm) as chief architect, and Bill Baker as chief structural engineer. The primary contractor was Samsung C&T of South Korea. In June 2010, Burj Khalifa was the recipient of the 2010 Best Tall Building Middle East & Africa award by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.

The total cost for the project was about US.5 billion; and for the entire "Downtown Dubai" development, US billion. In March 2009, Mohamed Ali Alabbar, chairman of the project's developer, Emaar Properties, said office space pricing at Burj Khalifa reached US,000 per sq ft (over US,000 per m2) and the Arm ani Residences, also in Burj Khalifa, sold for US,500 per sq ft (over US,500 per m2).

The project's completion coincided with the global financial crisis of 2007â€"2010, and with vast overbuilding in the country, led to high vacancies and foreclosures. With Dubai mired in debt from its huge ambitions, the government was forced to seek multi-billion dollar bailouts from its oil-rich neighbor Abu Dhabi. Subsequently, in a surprise move at its opening ceremony, the tower was renamed Burj Khalifa, said to honor the UAE President, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his crucial support.

I’ve long been impressed by the light sculpture in here (see the blurb below) â€" but this is the first time I’ve stopped to try and capture it “on film”. Quite tricky. Not sure which of the three I’ve posted I like best!

What do you think?
See them side by side here

And the blurb is:
The passenger corridor features a 744 foot neon sculpture by California artist Michael Hayden. The sculpture, entitled "Sky's the Limit" is the largest light sculpture in the world. It is composed o 466 colored neon tubes of 14 foot and 8 foot 8 inch lengths. They run the length of the ceiling above the two moving sidewalks. The first and last sections of the three-section sculpture beg in with white neon tubes. The center section starts with indigo and proceeds through the spectrum from shades of blue to green to yellow to orange to bright red. The light sculpture is computer generated. My Movie Business: A Memoir

After two producers, four directors, thirteen years, and uncounted rewrites, the movie version of John Irving\'s acclaimed novel, The Cider House Rules, at last made it to the big screen. Here is the author\'s account of the novel-to-film process. Anecdotal, affectionate, and delightfully candid, My Movie Business dazzles with Irving\'s incomparable wit and style.John Irving\'s novels pose tantalizing challenges to filmmakers: at his best, Irving has proven both popular and ambitious, crafting rich, picaresque fiction that juggles Big Themes and antic comedy, braiding his central narratives with intriguing subplots and discursive back stories driven by vivid characters. Irving\'s accessibility teases the would-be director or producer with the prospect of commercial acceptance even as the scope and intricacy of his work raises crucial risks for the scriptwriter. With two early novels that made it to the screen, The World According to Garp and The Hotel New Hampshire, Irving\'s box office impact thus far evenly translates to hit and miss.

This slender memoir offers a perceptive, if hardly objective, critique of the inherent differences between novels and screenplays, with the writer sharing his own experiences creating both. Irving focuses principally on his crusade to bring The Cider House Rules to the screen, tracing its gestation through four successive directors; with Irving himself attached as scriptwriter, we see the novelist struggling to reconcile the demands of concision against his paternal instincts toward the original book. Written before the final cut of The Cider House Rules, My Movie Business often verges on self-justification. Irving\'s respect for the movie\'s ultimate caretaker, Swedish director Lasse Hallstrom, is evident, as is his hopeful enthusiasm for the project\'s casting (which includes Michael Caine, Tobey McGuire, Jane Alexander, and Charlize Theron). Yet Irving can\'t repress the wariness prompted by his earlier disappointments with both this and other novels.

Ultimately, such< a href='http://Criminal.booksharecentral.net'> candor doesn\'t diminish the account\'s value as a post mortem of the creative process behind serious filmmaking, nor does it overpower the reliable grace of Irving\'s prose. Fans will also find My Movie Business revealing in its exploration of the inspiration behind The Cider House Rules and its eloquent stance against the antiabortion movement--Irving\'s own grandfather, a leading doctor, administrator, and Harvard professor of obstetrics and gynecology. But moviegoers, as well as those who haven\'t read Irving\'s original novel, should be forewarned that this memoir does reveal key plot elements of both. --Sam Sutherland
