Question by Billy O: Is writing a biography of someone considered a research paper?

I have to write a "research" paper on a musician that i've studied in my music class, but as i'm writing it, i feel like i'm just writing a biography on the guy. I'm writing about Louis Armstrong. Please help.

if you are researching and writing facts it is a research paper. Things can fall under more than one category. So you are writing a research-biography
