Question by happymommy: Difference between cross stitch, counted cross stitch and needlepoint?

I do crochet and like it because I don't have to be "creative." I need Christmas stockings and saw a lot of cross stitch, counted cross stitch and needlepoint kits for stockings. Is there a difference between the 3? Is it hard to do? Thanks

Answer by Denise S
Needlepoint is a generalization that includes all cross stitch and embroidery. Counted cross stitch is when there is not a pattern printed on the fabric for you to follow. The pattern is given to you on a piece of paper. You need to count where the stitches will belong. Cross stitch in general can mean both counted or with pattern on the fabric. I find the counted much easier.
